Metal Braces | Southington

Time-Tested Treatment

Metal braces are our most popular treatment option at Southington Orthodontics, and that makes a lot of sense. Braces are a strong, effective, and simple option for your smile.

Metal Braces, Digital Placement

Braces are a mainstay of orthodontic treatment, but we’re about more than just tradition here at Southington Orthodontics.

Our braces are lighter, stronger, and more effective than ever — and we’re innovating with a digital placement technique that makes placing your braces easier than ever.

Let’s learn a little more about this exciting new process:

What Is Digital Bracket Placement?

Digital bracket placement — also known as indirect bonding — has revolutionized the way we attach braces to your teeth.

Instead of the traditional, one-size-fits-all technique, you get customized treatment tailored to your unique dental anatomy.

By leveraging this cutting-edge technology, Dr. C can precisely determine the perfect position for each bracket on every tooth in your mouth.

The result is a highly efficient and comfortable process that significantly reduces the time you spend in the orthodontic chair.

With digital bracket placement, you can look forward to a smoother and more convenient start to your orthodontic journey.

How It Works

Digital bracket placement, also known as indirect bonding, is an innovative procedure that eliminates the discomfort and inconvenience associated with traditional bracket placement methods. Here’s how:

Unique Preparation

Once we’ve meticulously calculated the bracket positions, we secure the brackets onto plastic trays specifically crafted for your treatment. When you visit our office to get your braces, we'll prepare your teeth for the adhesion process.

Precision Planning

Dr. C will then use this 3D model to customize the position of each bracket with unmatched accuracy to suit your specific smile.

Accurate Scanning

Dr. C and our Southington Orthodontics team will use our iTero scanner to create a precise 3D model of your teeth.

Time-Saving Treatment

The remarkable thing about digital bracket placement is that we complete a significant portion of the work in our lab before your appointment. This innovative approach not only saves you time but also ensures a comfortable and efficient start to your orthodontic journey.

Choosing Southington Orthodontics means choosing the latest in orthodontic technology and expertise, all aimed at delivering the best possible results for your smile.

Quick, Painless Placement

Once we’ve prepared your teeth, we'll gently place the trays onto your teeth, much like fitting a mouthguard.

Once we’ve ensured the trays are perfectly aligned, we’ll remove them, leaving you with flawlessly positioned brackets on all your teeth.

Parts of Braces

Let's take a look at the different components that make up metal braces and how they work together to align your teeth.

Brackets

Brackets are small, square-shaped attachments that Dr. C adds to the front surface of each tooth. They serve as anchors for the wires that guide your tooth movement.

Archwires

These thin, flexible wires run through each bracket, connecting the brackets and applying gentle pressure to move your teeth into their desired positions. Dr. C adjusts these wires over time to maintain progress.

Ligatures

Ligatures, or rubber bands, secure the archwire to the brackets. You can choose either clear ligatures for a more discreet option or colored options to match your personality and give your treatment a personalized touch.

Elastics

Elastics — also known as rubber bands — correct bite problems by applying force in specific directions. They attach to hooks on the brackets and create the necessary tension to address issues like overbites or underbites.

Separators

Separators are small rubber rings placed between your molars to create space for the bands that go around them. They are removed once the bands are in place.

Hooks

Small extensions on the brackets allow for the attachment of elastics or other orthodontic devices to address specific alignment issues.

Springs

In some cases, Dr. C may use springs to create additional pressure on specific teeth or to open spaces in the arch for alignment.

Each of these components plays a crucial role in the orthodontic process, working together under the expert guidance of Dr. C and the Southington Orthodontics team to straighten your teeth and create a healthy, beautiful smile.
